Why Invest?
"You don’t have to be wealthy to invest, but you do have to invest to be wealthy."
The reality is that you can create wealth and secure your financial future. In the next 5-7 years you can build a financial foundation through property investment that will give you the freedom to live as you want and to make your own choices.
It is no coincidence that 65% of people listed in the Richest 200 list in Australia have become wealthy through property investment. A more pertinent but lesser known fact is that over 70% of Australian property investors earn below the average wage.
These people may not be wealthy or financially independent when they start investing but they are planning ahead and are taking steps for their future prosperity and security.
Consider for a moment if you could and wind back the clock ten years. . . . would you have liked to have started investing in more property or in any property for that matter? With the benefit of hindsight, most people would answer 'Yes of Course!'.
However in order to create wealth and financial independence you need “foresight”, a “plan”, and most importantly you must take some “action”.
How Many Couples Retire Wealthy?
The graph below is an indication of what is happening to retirees incomes today.
The red section shows that 83.1% of couples retire on less than $30,000 per year. Another 11.2% retire on between $30,000 and $50,000, and only 5.7% retire on $50,000 or more. In fact, the medium income for couples is just under $18,5000 per year. Could you and your partner live on this?
How Much do You Need to Retire?
To work out how much you think you will need to retire, multiply the figure you believe you will need per year to live on ( say $40,000pa) by 20.
For example $40,000 would require you to have assets (over and above the family home) of $800,000. For $50,000 you would need $1,000,000. How are you going to acheive this? Is your superannuation going to come close?
